Racism is a common characteristic of most people in the South during the years of slavery and even after. These three men are the same with the only underlying difference being their skins tone. The man in the middle has the least amount of authority and rights compared to the two men next to him who have white skin.

White "superiority" at the time gave whites power over blacks. This is based upon racist views and African American mutilation within the United States and laws that gave everyone "equal rights."
