Demeter and Persephone Once upon a time, there was a girl named Persephone. She was the daughter of Demeter. Demeter was the goddess of spring or plants. She loved her daughter but so did Hades. Hades is the god of the underworld. He fell in love with Persephone and he took her for his own.
Okay and be careful!
Hi mother. I'm going to go play in the fields!
I think I'm in love. I have to do something!
Hades plan was to take Persephone to the underworld. He tried to do anything he could, to make her happy, but nothing worked.
Why aren't you happy?
Demeter was furious with Hades and she wan ted her daughter back. The other gods made an agreement that Persephone could return every 6 months.
The agreement is that she is to come back every 6 months.
I want my daughter back!
Demeter hated that her daughter couldn't come back, and she didn't care about the plants anymore. Hades took Persephone to the underworld. There was an agreement that Persephone could return to Earth every 6 months to see her mother. This was the explanation of the four seasons. Every time Persephone came, spring would come, but every time she left, winter would come
