Regents of the U. of California v. Bakke Storyboard

Storyboard Text

  • Welcome to the University of California
  • I want to join this school but I'll have to go under the special admissions program. Hopefully nothing bad happens.
  • 1971
  • WHAT?! They let THOSE people in but not me after I tried 2 times under special admissions program?
  • Bakke's Opinion
  • You can't have a program that lets people in solely because of their race! It's not fair for everyone.
  • The University's Opinion
  • The school needs more diversity in it and in the medical field! This is a good way to do this!
  • The court has concluded the system is unconstitutional and goes against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Protection Clause which states you cannot discriminate from race.
  • Also, Bakke can go to the school
  • Now, all universities that want to have a special admissions program need to follow Bakke's standards. All racial quotas are unconstitutional and need to be change to an affirmative action program that considers race as a factor along with other things.
