  • Pre-Arabia was a dry and sandy desert with very few water sources which made it hard and caused people to travel. Mecca, one of the many cities became the most important religious center and economic center in Arabia.
  • Jihad
  • Muhammad was born about the year 570 CE. He had many family die including his parents at a early age. In his teens ha traveled with his uncle to learn more about trade. 
  • Quaran
  • When Muhammad was either nine or twelve he went with the Meccans’ caravan to Syria, he met a Christian monk or hermit who is said to have foreseen Muhammad’s career as a prophet of God. 
  • His Umhad
  • The word jihād means the act of “striving, applying oneself, struggling, persevering.” Muhammad jihad was how these wealthy Meccan clans attempted to assassinate him and destroy his followers.  
  • The Quran is considered by Muslims to be the verbatim word of God
  • This was a community composed of a variety of people and beliefs. Muhammad composed many laws opened local markets and charged no tax on transactions.
