Salva is an 11 year old boy in school. He is in school thinking about his home and chores he does at home. He is not paying attention to the teacher. He is thinking of Is life back at home.
In this scene they hear gunshots outside. Their teacher tells them to run and hide in the bush. Salva is worrying about his family at home and ask if he could go home. His teacher tells them not to go home because he said the rebels will head there.
Salva is sleeping at the barn. They leave him there sleeping. When he wakes up he finds out he is alone. He gets scared and wonders why they left him. He thinks that they left him because he is a child.
They are crossing the Akobo Desert. He is with his uncle. He is tired of walking but his uncle keeps pushing him to walk. The people in the group treat Salva's uncle as the leader of the group because he has a gun.
They are crossing the Gilo River. The refugee camp forced them to leave. There are snakes in the river. People are dying by the crocodiles and the refugee camp is shooting them. Salva safely makes it across the river with some other boys.
Salva is traveling on a plane to America. He found his name on the list to go to America. He was at a refugee camp in Kenya. He has been studying English. He is going to America to meet his new family.
