Storyboard Text

  • Your son Siddhartha is going to be king when he is older.
  • I have everything I need in my life.
  • We should trade clothes because this man has achieved enlightment.
  • I have achieved enlightment.
  •  Many years ago, in 563 B.C, Siddhartha Gautama was born. Siddhartha's father went to a fortune teller to see if the fortune teller can predict if he is going to become a king. The fortune teller told Siddhartha's father that he will become king.
  • I want to join your group so I can reach enlightment.
  • Siddhartha grew up in a life of luxury without experiencing pain or sadness. As Siddhartha grew up, his father protected him from anything unpleasant. Before and after he got married he had anything a person could have.
  • When Siddhartha was 29 years old, one day he left the palace with no guards. He saw an old man, diseased man, dead man, and then sees a homeless, holy, possessed man. The man holy man traded a yellow robe for Siddhartha's rich clothes because the man was exhibited.
  • Siddhartha's next step was to join a band or religious ascetics. If Siddhartha was to join a group of ascetics, he would have to deny himself, but he rejected self-denial and the ascetics abandoned him.
  • As his strength returned, Siddhartha renewed his search. He meditated for 49 whole days and after he accomplished 49 days of meditation he achieved enlightenment and became Buddha.
  • Siddhartha's purpose in life was to awaken the world to the true nature of life. This means if people do this they can escape the cycle of suffering an rebirth.
  • Understand the true nature of life.
