Mary Maloney is patiently waiting for her husband to come home from work. She would glance up at the clock now and again, but she has no anxiety. As she waits for her husband to get home from work she is sewing.
Patrick Maloney was doing unusual things he wouldn't do when he got home from work. He started by chugging his glass in one swallow. Mary asked him if he wanted to go to dinner since it was Thursday, that's when he replied with no, he has to tell her something.
After he told her what he needed to tell her, she went and got the leg of lamb out of the freezer for supper. She had than walked into the living room with the leg of lamb and he said to not make supper because he's going out. She than walked up behind him and raised the leg of lamb with both hands and as hard as she could, she hit Patrick in the back of the head.
Mary then had to think of an alibi, after she killed her husband. She had decided to go to the grocery store and get something for supper. She practiced in the mirror what to say to Sam, the grocer. Once she had arrived at the store and told Sam that Patrick was tired and didn't want to eat out.
Mary had left the store to go home. When she got home she acted like she didn't know her husband was dead, so she was crying and then called the police. The police then arrived at the scene of Patrick Maloney. She asked them if they would like supper because she made it for Patrick, but little did they know it was the murder weapon.
This is dramatic irony because we know who really killed Patrick, but the officers don't and they are eating the murder weapon. The Officers were right the murder weapon was there on the premises.
