Hi kids, My name is Quaker, I will be helping you guys understand more about problems that occur in a lot of aquatic environments. Like the long island sound. such as Hypoxia, Fish kill, and Eutrophication
Me and my Ducklets live in something that is called an Estuary. An Estuary is when a river or lake meats the ocean, and the fresh and salt water combine..
Also, if you look at the water that is in front of me, you will see that it is green, and full of polution. This is called an Algae Bloom., this leads to many of the subjects that we will be talking about today.
My Ducklets and I have been facing a problem, Something called Fish kill is happening in our environment. there is too much algae, due to a recent Algal Bloom, so all of the fish that we eat for food, are dying due to the loss of oxygen in our water.
Fish kill is when Algal Blooms take up too much oxegyn, and surviving becomes a struggle for many species of aquatic life in that environment.
This, is an example of Fish Kill, all of these adorable fish are DEAD. and 95% of the reason they are dead, is because of you humans. All of the plastic, fertilizer, animal waste, and other polutants that are part of your everyday life, contribute towards the death of many other aquatic animals and ecosystems. Not just the fish.
