3) I would like to try your delicious chicken sandwich. I would also like to have some grape juice.
4) Sure! I will get your orders as soon as I can!
2) I would like to get your "superrrr-cereal Sunday" today.
1) Hello! What can I do for you guys today? We have lots of good food in our menu! Make yourself feel at home.
30 minutes later..
3) NO! WE ARE OUT OF HERE.
1) What took you so long!? We've been waiting for 30 minutes for service which is really embarrassing for a restaurant in today's society. I'm sorry but you are not fit for this job. You need to be much faster. I'm going to give this restaurant a 1-star!
2) I'm really sorry for the delays! There were misfortunes that occurred in the kitchen. Would you like a refund?
I don't understand why they treated me like that. I wish they were more sympathetic. I'm tired of showing a fake face while working for this job. Maybe I'm not understanding something.
----------
2) Hey Verga! That's part of the job. It's something called emotional labour. Part of your pay is to manage your emotions in situations like these! I also do a lot of emotion labour. I'm a flight attendant and I always got to make sure I put my best self in front of customers!
4) You might think that the unfair treatment you just received may be caused by actions you made however, a lot of people face the same problems as you do! The personal troubles you face aren't just unique to you. In your case, it happens to a lot of waiters/waitresses as well! You need to learn what it means to have a sociological imagination! Maybe the reason why you were treated like that is because in today's society, everything is efficient and fast because of technology. It could be that the people you encountered were not used to the slow service therefore they felt irritated and annoyed. There are many different ways to look at this but as long as you keep a sociological imagination, you would have a better understanding on why personal troubles are somehow tied to problems of society.
1) Hey Kampen, how do you do it? I had an incident in the first day of my job as a waiter. I had customers get mad at me for something out of my control! It felt so discouraging to be treated so unfairly. Am I missing something?
3) That makes a lot of sense now but why were the customers so unfair to me? What did I do wrong? I was just doing my job!
5) You know Kampen, that makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Due to technology being so prevalent in our society, society's expectations change as well! Society wants us to be very efficient and fast. I never thought my personal problems are somehow tied to problems of society. I'm going to give myself some time to reflect on my issues and attempt to explain how they are also society's problems! I will keep that in mind when I encounter a similar situation again! Thank you so much for teaching all of this.
----------
1) Such a horrible and slow service. This restaurant doesn't know how to treat their customers right. You should probably quit this job because clearly this job isn't meant for you.
3) I'm so sorry that you felt that way. I will try my very best next time! Please come back to the restaurant and we'll be sure to get it right next time! Have a good day.
2) This restaurant is really bad. Let's get out of here.
----------
Today was not a bad day considering the fact that I dealt with rude customers! I'm going to treat Kampen to a favorite restaurant of hers. She taught me well!
I also wanted to emphasize in this frame the idea of the McDonaldization of society. The idea is that we have to be fast and efficient every hour of the day. This can be referred to as a work clock. The fact that our day is scheduled and have set tasks at specific hours to allow for maximum efficiency. In this storyboard, a possible reason why the customers felt so irritated is that the waiter ruined their schedule for the day which can explain why they felt angry.
----------
4) *in his head* Just like what Kampen said, it is important to have a sociological imagination! This isn't just unique to me, others have it worse as well! This is a problem of society. I will not let this ruin my day!
