Storyboard Text

  • Hello! I'm Ms. G, your science teacher, and today we'll be learning about genetics! Here are a few main ideas of genetics. First, I'll be talking about phenotype. Phenotype is the physical traits you see when you look at someone. For example, I have blonde hair and blue eyes
  • There's also Genotype! Genotypes are the name for the genetic code or combination for a trait. Genotypes are the genetic makeup of an organism.
  • Next, I'll be talking about homozygous! Homozygous refers to a gene that has identical alleles on both chromosones. It is usually reffered to as XX or xx.
  • Another thing I'll be explaining is heterozygous! Heterozygous refers to a pair of genes where one is dominant and one is recessive.  It is typically referred to as Xx.
  • But what is dominant and recessive? Dominant is the trait always expressed when present. Recessive is a trait masked by the dominant.
  • The last thing I'll be talking about is co- dominance! Co-dominance is when both genes are expressed! For example, if you cross a black dog with a white dog, you'll have a black and white dog.
