Storyboard Text

  • In 1754, George Washington had defeated a small French troop, but him and his troop were forced to surrender once another troop counterattacked. This act had led to the beginning of what became known as the French and Indian War.
  • Finally, we've rid of this British scum off of our land.
  • At first, the British weren't doing good in North America, however that changed once a combined British and colonial force overwhelmed two forts in Nova Scotia in 1755. These troops evicted the French settlers off of their land and gave it to the New Englanders. However, the British army suffered when General Braddock marched into a French and Indian ambush near Fort Duquesne. Braddcok perished, but George Washington saved half of the remaining army.
  • In 1756 to 1757, General Montcalm and the Indians destroyed British forts on Lakes Ontario and George, in Pennsylvania, and Virginia. However, the tides of war changed in 1758 to 1759 as the British were able to cut off French shipping to the Americas, so the Indians went to trade with the well-supplied British instead of the French.
  • No French are allowed to come here to trade! Be gone!
  • As a result of capturing Fort Duquesne and the French fortress of Louisbourg, General James Wolfe captured the stronghold of Quebec in 1759. Wolfe's men were able to do so by scaling a cliff to eventually manage to kill the French General Montcalm due to him charging out to attack.
  • The cliff is straight ahead, we just need to scale this mountain further.
  • In 1760, the British had captured Montreal, and had forced the French governor general to surrender the rest of Canada, which meant the British had reached their main North American goal.
  • Hand over not only Montreal, but the rest of the Canadian region.
  • Please, have mercy. I'll do anything besides that.
  • Wonderful!
  • The Treaty of Paris was established in 1763, and had ended the French and Indian War amazingly for the British as they kept Canada, the Great Lakes region, the Ohio River Valley, and Florida, as well as setting boundaries for the Spanish using the Mississippi River, and drove the French away from North America as a result of the Treaty of Paris.
  • I am pleased to announce that we have won this war, and have received many benefits as a result.
  • After the war had ended, the British had realized that they spent so much money and blood to conquer North America, so they wanted to have greater control over their colonies. They were under heavy war debt and the expensive guarding the vast territories taken from the French led them to think the colonists should help pay for these things. During the 1760s, The British had imposed new taxes and new regulations on colonial trade which led to many angered colonists that wanted to keep the loose empire that the British had made before. The colonies wanted to separate and unite together from the British prior to them imposing taxes on trades, however, the British were afraid of this unification.
  • Sir, please pay our taxes as we deserve it due to us allowing you to stay here, also we are under heavy war debt due to the war expenses.
