Persephone was the Greek goddess of spring, flowers, fertility and young life, daughter of Zeus and Demeter.
One fine day, Persephone was pacing the camp, when Hades, the god of the inferior world, snatched her.
Hades, being in love with her, kept her prey in his kingdom.
Demeter was very sad when she learned that his daughter was in prison. So she agreed with Hades that half of the year, Persephone would stay with her, and the rest, in the inferior world.
Thus, when Persephone was with Hades, Demeter did not fulfill his obligations, starting in fall and winter.
So, the part of the year in which they were together, the nature was beautiful, generating spring and summer.
