Democracy began in 500 B.C this is important because it shows how democracy started and when. That is when citizens got the right to vote.
Also, every citizen gets to have a say in what happens in Athens but back then women were not thought of as citizens
While the men got to go outside and have meetings the woman had to stay inside, take care of the children, and clean.
Solon gave poor people the right to vote. I think this is important because even though they don't have a lot of money they still get to have a say in what happens in their city-state. Solon got reelected many many times until he died because the people trusted him and they knew he made very good desitions for them.
There were also no lawyers and the citizens had to find a way to make their own case. I think this is important because they did not have professional help and people who had long schooling to help them as we do. So they might not win their case.
At the meetings, every citizen got to express their opinions and they also got to cast their votes. I think this is important because they gave citizens a right to say what they want to say and they all get to cast a vote. Also, no one could arrest them or punish them for speaking their opinion. Woman were not thought of as citizens so they could not attend.
As you can tell from this Storyboard that the reason every citizen has a voice in America is because Athens had the courage to start that and even though Athens was not perfect without Athens America would be very different.
