  • John Rutledge finally excepted the need for people’s independence. So he joined the local committee of safety. He helped write the first constitution and served as president for the lower class.

  • During the revolutionary war, John Rutledge was elected governor of South Carolina. He was speaking for slavery in the constitution during the war. His brother fought against the British in South Carolina during the American revolution.
