Storyboard Text

  • I can't wait to go to New York!
  • Yea I think our brother can help with that.
  • Hopefully we can get jobs quick so we can send money to mom.
  • Comida de Aeropuerto
  • Is it really as amazing as they say it is?
  • My Mom, Aunt, and Grandma just got off the phone with my Uncle, who is already living in the U.S. My mom and Aunt have earned themselves enough money to move to the US and live with my Uncle. They would buy their own plane tickets to fly to America. This is a great opportunity to further support the family and themselves as independent women.
  • My mom has brought her plane ticket and sits with my Aunt. They are in the airport cafeteria waiting for the plane boarding time.  This decision to go to America wasn't very hard to make. Both didn't have any children yet and they could earn more money in the U.S. to send back to my grandma.
  • I'd love to babysit your kids for you!
  • Now in the airplane, the sisters are well underway to the United States. My mom thinks about what America will be like. She believes that compared to her home country of Bolivia, she thought everything would look very new. She thought that all of the buildings and homes in the glamorous New York City would be modern and new.
  • Hi!
  • My Mom and Aunt have landed in New York City and are now on their way to my Uncle's house, where they would be living. She starts looking around the city and realizes it didn't meet her expectations at all. In reality, a lot of buildings were of old age and glamorous as expected, at least in Brooklyn it wasn't.
  • Both my Aunt and my mom finally arrive at my Uncle's house. Since she is new to the country, my Uncle gives my mother a job. He gives her the task of watching his kids while he works, and he pays her. This is a good start for her as she can also get close with her nieces and nephews. It is also good because she's already used to caring for children.
  • Coming from an all spanish speaking country, it is obvious that my mom and aunt had no idea how to speak English. Because of this, they began taking weekly Sunday English classes to learn the language. This way my mom could work for all 5 weekdays and learn English on Sunday. It was very difficult for them to get used to the English Language as they were only used to Spanish but either way they learned the language.
  • Hola en ingles es Hi
