In this scene when Doon and Lina turned 12 they were assigned permanent jobs. Lina drew Pipeworks Labourer and Doon drew Messenger. Lina and Doon refused to be assigned those jobs because Doon thought he could fix the generator and Lina just wanted to be a messenger and hated the Pipeworks Labourer jobs. I chose to include this scene because Lina and Doon and Lina’s jobs play a critical role in the City of Ember. Because if they didn't trade jobs the most likely wouldn't even be interested in there jobs, therefore, they probably wouldn't feel curious enough for them to explore and Doon wouldn't be able to know where the secret door is.
In this scene When Lina comes home she finds out that Poppy is chewing a paper that turns out to be the instructions. She puts the instructions together and it tells her about a door in the Pipeworks. This scene is important to the story because if Lina didn't discover the instructions she wouldn't be able to tell Doon about it or potentially find a way out of Ember.
In this scene, Lina and Doon journey through the pipeworks and eventually find the door from the instructions. Its locked they then hear someone walking towards them so they. It was a man he was tall and wearing black he had a familiar limp and he also had the key.I consider this to be an important event because if Doon and Lina didn't find the door they most likely wouldn't be able to help Ember. Since the person that had access to the door wasn't doing anything.
I think that at the end of the novel Doon and Lina figure out who has the key then they take it and then sneak it into the pipeworks and find a way out of Ember. I also think that either Doon or Lina are elected mayor or they share the title.I consider this to be an important event because if Doon and Lina didn't find the door they most likely wouldn't be able to help Ember. Since the person that had access to the door wasn't doing anything.
