Athena and Arachne the Weaver

Storyboard Text

  • Arachne was an amazing weaver, who lived in the city of Lydia, Lydia was known for producing the best weavers in all the land.
  • Arachne was a very talented weaver, but she was far too arrogant. Arachne boasted that she was a better weaver than Athena, the goddess of wisdom and crafts.
  • Athena then came to Lydia to confront Arachne. Arachne then challenged Athena to a weaving contest.
  • The two weaved all night on their looms, then in the morning, they compared their works. Although Arachne’s Tapestry was flawless, she chose to weave a scene of the gods drunken and behaving badly. Athena was outraged and destroyed Arachne's tapestry
  • Athena then touched Arachne's forehead to make sure she was feeling shame and guilt. Arachne was so shameful that she hung herself, but Athena took pity on her and turned the rope into a web.
  • Then Arachne slowly changed into a spider. She lived her life weaving beautiful artworks out of her silky, magical webs.
