So, on May 11, 2024, my Mom and I picked up my first leader dog to train. The second I met her, I knew she was special. I knew she had so much potential to do great things and could change someone’s life. I named her Poppy, after the flower.
Today, I train Poppy every day. I am consistently working to make her a more obedient and well-trained dog. By training Poppy to be a future Leader Dog for the blind and help someone else, I feel like I am also helping myself cope with the loss of my vision.

I want to help someone else who is struggling in a worse position. Maybe I should raise a Leader Dog for the Blind. . . I know one would have really helped me.
Thinking of that life-changing event made me realize how fortunate I was to have any sight, regardless of how good or bad it was. It made me realize how I had taken my eyesight for granted. I never realized how many beautiful things there were to see. It made me realize and feel bad for other people who did not get that chance to see the world. I decided to give back to the community and help people who were not as fortunate as me.
