Full of vexation come I with complaint against my child.
You will marry Demetrius or you will be sent to a nunnery, else you die.
Why does Hermia not marry Demetrius, it is my right, why does she not obey. She angers me so, but I not know why
Egeus Comes to Theseus hoping that the Duke can get his daughter to marry the man of his choice, as is his right as a father.
Theseus tells Hermia, Egeus' daughter, that if she doesn't marry Demetrius, Egeus' choice of suiter, then she will be sent to a nunnery or she will be put to death.
Egeus is confused by Hermia's resistance to his wishes, he has a right to choose her suiter, and she has denied him that.
