Storyboard Text

  • Christopher Columbus went to the King and Queen to ask for permission to go on a voyage.
  • Christopher had a goal to find a sea route to Asia by sailing west across the Atlantic ocean.
  • Columbus and his crew reached the Caribbean and they thought that it was the east indies.
  • Portugal thought that Columbus reached Asia and had claimed lands for Spain that Portugal had already claimed.
  • They decided to have an imaginary dividing line, drawn from north to south through the Atlantic. The line was moved farther west to include parts of modern-day Brazil for the Portuguese
  • Spain and Portugal signed the Treaty of Tordesillas and by doing so agreed to honor the line.
