The first attempt to attack the patriots was unsuccessful so the British were forced to retreat.
A second British attack was also unsuccessful. They were forced to retreat again
Finally, the British won the war. but they lost 1,000 soldiers at war while the Americans lost 400.

The British took Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill. They paid a high price for their victory. It was clear at the end of the battle that the Americans could fight bravely and that the British would not be easy to defeat.
