I am regarded as the originator of the Age Of Discovery
But I'm not even a sailor or a navigator
Neither have i ever set sail before
I actually was a sponsor of many voyages
In 1415 my ships reached the canary islands but were already claimmed by Spain
1418 they came across the Madeira Islands
And by 1436 the ships had traveled as far as Rio de Oro
But i died on the 13th of November 1460
But storms ended blowing us away from the coast
The journey started early January 1488.
Unlike Prince Henry I actually set sail
And I am known to be the first European mariner to round the southern tip of Africa.
And we sailed off the coast of South Africa with two ships
Due to prior knowledge Dias is said to have his crew turn 28 degrees to the south. This was considered risky but worked with the crew spotting landfall on on feburary 1488. This was 300 miles east of the place now known as 'Cape of good hope'.
I actually didn't discover the Cape of Good Hope until the journey back.
The voyage was eventually ended due to running out of food supplies.
Following the voyage I settled in Guinea, West Africa. Soon after I was ordered to be the shipbuilding consultant of Vasco de Gama.
