After the knocking stops, the house begins to shake. Mr. and Mrs. White get scared and run out in fear, and their house falls into shambles. Mrs. White cries as she sees the world around her, a surrounding of ash and gray sky. Mr. White is panicked and runs out of the house, watching his wife fall to the ground in tears.
Mr. and Mrs. White go through the world looking for other people. Mr. White explains that he wished for the knocking to permanently stop, resulting in the house falling apart. As the White's travel through the woods, they encounter the cemetery their son is kept at.
As Mr. and Mrs. White mourn the death of their son, they visit a grave but discover that Herbert is not inside. In place of his body, there is the monkey's paw. The White's thought they left the paw at the crumbled house. As they begin to worry, they realize they will be stuck with the paw for life, and that the paw will not leave their side.
