In 1492, Christopher Columbus, was an Italian explorer for Spain. He was looking for a faster and safer route to Asia. He landed on San Salvador in October 1492 .
In 1519, Alonso Alverez De Pineda, was the first European to Map the Texas Coast. Some of his men were arrested by Herman Cortez, who saw them as threats to his mission.
In 1519, Cortez was sent to Mexico by the governor of Cuba. The Aztecs made Spain rich because they took away gold, and gave it to Spain. The Spanish were able to overthrough the Aztecs.
In 1528, Cabeza De Vaca and his men were shipwrecked , and the Karankawa´s gave them food and shelter. De Vaca, told stories about how he found gold, but he lied. So they travel Texas from tribe to tribe to find the gold.
In 1540, Coronado and his men were searching for the city. They found the Grand Canyon, the Pacific Ocean, and traveled all the way to Kansas, but never found the city. Since there was no gold in Texas, they ignored Texas until another country took interest.
In 1648, La Salle arrived in Texas. He explored the length of the Mississippi River. La Salle arrived in Texas at the Matagorda Bay. He built a for and tried to establish friendly relations with the local Indians, but never got along.
By 1686, only 45 of the original 400 people were still alive. He and his survivors left for French Canada. La Salle was killed by his own men. Only 7 survived.
