  • So you see, There are many causes of The Great Depression.
  • One cause of the Great Depression was: The Stock Market Crash
  • Banking panics and monetary contraction was another cause
  • Third: the gold standard. This is an event in history that helped cause the Great Depression. The Gold Standard is:the system by which the value of a currency was defined in terms of gold, for which the currency could be exchanged. The gold standard was generally abandoned in the Depression of the 1930s.
  • Also,Decreased international lending and tariffs was part of the Great Depression
  • . Then the Smoot-Hawley Tariff. This is the act that raised import duties to protect American businesses. As well as farmers, adding considerable strain to the international economic climate of the Great Depression.
  • And Finally: The Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl is basically a major dust storm that killed crops.
