There were many causes of the American Revolution. The colonies had just ended the French and Indian war, and Britain had lost a lot of money and wanted to control where the colonists could settle. Britain decided to first tax the colonies. They put taxes on tea, paper, sugar, molasses, and many other things. Theses taxes outraged the civilians.(Continued Below)

The most important event in The Revolutionary War was the Battle of Yorktown. General Cornwallis of the British army set his army up of 8,000 troops in a peninsula in the Chesapeake Bay, known as Yorktown. George Washington and Jean Rochambeau(An ally from France) trapped the British soldiers on the island, blockading British ships from coming in from the sea using the French Ships.(Continued Below)

Because of this war, there were around 27,100 casualties on the American side, and 10,000 casualties on the British side. This was a tremendous loss of lives for both countries. Many American soldiers had no pay after the war but instead received certificates for land in the West. (Continued Below)
Outcome/Effect of the War
Britain then stationed 10,000 troops in the colonies, passing the Quartering Act.The colonists decided to protest these acts, which ended in Britain blockading the Boston ports.Some of them were peaceful, and others ended in violence, such as The Boston Massacre.Finally after the Intolerable Acts, America decided it had had enough, banning all trade with Britain, which instigated the war.

The American and French troops bombarded Yorktown with cannon fire, eventually forcing General Cornwallis and his British troops to surrender. Yorktown was the last major battle of the war. This is the most important event because British leaders were convinced that this meant the Americans had won, effectively ending the war.
Congress and the states had accumulated $27 million in debt during the war. This debt proved very difficult to pay off. Also, thousands of loyalists lost their property. At first, the Americans were confused on how to shape their government, but they eventually figured it out. Republicanism is what the founding fathers used to shape the Declaration of Independence. However, America was finally able to win their freedom from Britain.
