The three things that Newton accomplished/discovered: He also said that two bodies are attracted to each other because of mass. He discover that the earth was not completely round. And the study of light and discovered the color spectrum. Francis Bacon and the scientific method.
The scientific method was a major contribution of this time period, establishing a systematic way to find proof using reason. This was the logical procedure to test theories that included: Begin with a question,Form a hypothesis that is then tested through, experimentation, analyze the data to reach a conclusion.
Don't question gods words!
Galileo offered support for the heliocentric theory with his (Copernicus) experiments concerning motion and his observation of space with use of the telescope. Scientists like Galileo were called to renounce or stop their teachings and reaffirm the teachings of the church or face excommunication. Galileo was put under house arrest by the church towards the end of his life because of his challenges.
Impact on today
Today on History we'll learn about the scientific revolution!
Ptolemy’s theory of planetary motion (the geocentric theory) and church teachings were brought into question by Copernicus heliocentric theory. Nicolaus Copernicus was an astronomer, mathematician, translator, artist, and physicist among other things. He is best known as the first astronomer to posit the idea of a heliocentric solar system—a system in which the planets and planetary objects orbit the sun.
Scientists began to question ancient theories and the orthodox teachings of the teachings of the roman catholic church. A significant conflict arose between scientific and traditional religious during this time. The theories and books that were published also led to significant conflict with the church.
New truths and research challenged previous though processes and studies, these scientists began using reason or logical reasoning instead of placing their beliefs in faith. All of these challenges to authority inspired the philosophers to then begin using reason to apply it to the political environment in Europe. Through the use of reason,Enlightenment philosophers began developing ideas that challenged the unlimited governments of the time and influenced the development of limited governments in the 1600s and 1700s.
