Storyboard Text

  • This school is for white children only.
  • That's not fair. I should be entitled to have the same educational opportunities as everyone else.
  • It should be illegal to segregate schools. We want all children to have the option of a good education.
  • Segregation in schools is perfectly constitutional as established by Plessy v. Ferguson.
  • Brown v. Board of Education (1954)
  • I must take this case to the Supreme Court in order to have any hope of ending serration in schools.
  • State Court
  • It has been ruled that segregation in schools will have a detrimental effect on African American children who are apart of the educational system. Segregation in schools is unconstitutional.
  • State Court
  • This was a significant case because it was a major step in the Civil Rights movement and it also is an example of judicial activism. Instead of the justices basing their ruling on a preceding case, which was Plessy v. Ferguson in this case, they based their ruling on the current social atmosphere in the United States. The justices believed this in modern times, segregation would only serve to hinder the progression of society.
