I'm innocent!!! The shoes literally fell from the sky!
How do you expect us to believe that? Besides, you have no witnesses!
Stanley is a boy who lives in an apartment. One day when he's walking home from school a pair of sneakers fall on his head. His father is trying a new experiment with shoes, so Stanley takes them with him.
Little did Stanley know, but those were Clyde Livingston's shoes. He had planned to donate them. And since the police saw him with the shoes, they thought he stole them. Stanley tried to explain the truth, but no one listened.
So all you do is dig holes?
Yeah, pretty much.
Stanley was then given a choice, he could either go to Camp Green Lake. Or go to jail. Stanley hadn't been to camp before so he chose to go to camp.
When Stanley arrives at Camp Green Lake, there is no sign of green anywhere. There isn't even a lake to be seen.
As Stanley meets the other boys at camp, they tell him about the rules at camp. Dig holes, five feet deep, five feet wide.
The Warden is the leader who owns a hut on the other side of the lake. There's only one important rule. Don't upset the Warden. The more Stanley sees, the more he becomes suspicious. It's becoming clear they aren't just "Digging for character."
