  • Christopher Columbus, is an Italian explorer for Spain, He was looking for a faster and safer route for Asia. He landed on San Salvador in October 1492
  • In 1519 Pineda set out from Jamaica to map the coast of Gulf Of Mexico, He was the first European to observe the Texas Coast, Some of his men were arrested by Cortes 
  • 1519 Cortes was sent to the present day Mexico by the governor of Cuba. The Aztecs viewed Cortes and his men as gods. The Spanish were able to overthrow the Aztecs. They also possessed wealth in gold and silver
  • 1528 Cabeza De Vaca boats got caught in a hurricane and Cabeza De Vaca and several men got shipwrecked on galveston island. The Karankawas gave them food and shelter. He traveled from tribe to tribe and lied to a lot of people.
  • Coronado and more than 1,000 men went in search for the city of gold in 1540. They found thew Grand Canyon, Pacific Ocean, and explored all the way into the present day Kansas. But never found the city of gold. Since there was no gold the Spanish ignored Texas. 
  • La Salle was a famous French Explorer. In 1648 he arrived in Texas- Matagorda Bay (Texas Coast). He also was killed by his own men. Only 7 survived the expedition.
