Instead of writing an essay for Mr Wards section on the Harlem renaissance Wesley decides to pen a poem instead. When Mr Ward has him share it with the whole class, open mike Fridays are born
As students share their poems every friday they learn more about each other and see that they may look diffrent on the outside but they all have the same fears, dreams, ETC
Conflict: the conflict is each kid wears a mask that hides who they really are. There poems exposes the masks and levels them
Mr Ward gets a real life poet to visit his class and the kids get an article written about them in the newspaper. The reporter guy calls them a inspiration.
Tyrone and the other students in Mr wards class start thinking about their lives after high school. these open mic sessions have given them hope for the future the ability to dream, and understanding of other people.
Everyone reads their poems at the assembly in front of the entire school. Mr Ward declares open mike Fridays, its such a success that he decided to do it again next year. And he is going to add a slam poetry contest.
