Storyboard Text

  • Pick up my pocketbook, boy, and give it here.
  • You gonna take me to jail?
  • Not with that face. I would not take you nowhere.
  • One night, as Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, a "large woman with a large purse," was walking home, someone tugged at her ginormous pocketbook, trying to steal it.
  • I wanted a pair of blue suede shoes.
  • I believe you're hungry--or been hungry-- to try to snatch my pocketbook.
  • The purse was too heavy for Roger to try to steal it, and he was caught. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones then dragged Roger all the way to her apartment, not telling him what for.
  • Now, here, take this ten dollars and buy yourself some blue suede shoes. And next time, do not make the mistake of latching on to my pocket book nor nobody else's...
  • At her apartment, Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones made Roger wash his face, as she went into the next room.
  • Thank you ma'm...
  • As she was preparing the meal, for her and Roger, she gets him to tell her why he tried to steal her purse.
  • Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones showed Roger kindness after he revealed why he tried to steal her purse, giving him $10 and making him promise to never steal again.
  • She showed Roger to the door after, and he was appalled by what she had said, that the only words he could muster up were "Thank you ma'am."
