"She doesn't need anybody to laugh, she just laughs" (67) Ruthie is described by Esperanza as being in her own little world, by being able to have fun and laugh by herself.

". . .somebody might be singing and she'll point to a few clouds" (pg.68) Ruthie's inability to stay on subject, shows how she likes to say whats on her mind at that moment, even if its completely off topic.
