  • Pax begins with the reader being introduced to Pax the Fox and his owner Peter. The story takes place in a forest during a war.
  • Climax
  • Peter is moving to his grandpa's house so his dad can work. His Dad says he can't take Pax, so Peter has to release him into the wild by playing a game of fetch and not coming back.
  • Falling Action
  • Peter is miserable he let Pax go, and he plans to run away and retrieve him. He plans a trail and leaves a note to his grandpa telling him he went to school early, then Peter goes on his journey.
  • Resolution
  • On his journey, Peter breaks his foot and some lady named Vola takes him in and cares for him. Peter is skeptical about Vola because she lives in the middle of nowhere, but he gets to know her as the story goes on. While that is happening, Pax finds two fox friends named Bristle and Runt.
  • Vola helps Peter get better and in exchange, Peter helps her make some marionettes. They take the marionettes to the library in the nearest town, and Peter gets on the bus from there. The bus driver drops him off and he travels for three more days.
  • Peter travels into the now army base where he left Pax. Once Peter finds him he sees that pax has made some other fox friends during his time in the wild. Peter is sad, but he knows he has to let him go with his newfound family.
