instead of living a life as an ascetic you should live a balanced life
Siddhartha Gautama was born into a wealthy family his father had kept him in their palace and away from the world away from religion and hardship for years till one day he decided to leave and for the first time in his life he saw something other than the inside of a palace he met a man who was sick he met a aging man and a dying man and an ascetic which is dont live confortable lives and live off of very little resources such as food or water. At the age of 29 siddhartha left his home and family behind to live an ascetic life. He went on a journey to find a way of relieving suffering.
On his journey and one day a little girl gave him a bowl of rice that he ate and he then learned that ptting himself through this hard ship wasn't going to help him achieve his goal. He then began talking to other people about living a life of balance and not too extreame. Later that night Siddhartha sat under the Bohdi tree where he meditared for the rest of that night and many more and then got back up. He was trying to find the truth about what he wanted. He fought a demon who's name was Mara. The demon was an obstacle he had to overcome for him to become buddha.
Siddhartha was now Buddha and travled far to share his beliefs and ironically ascetics were his first students and as he tought them about what he learned through his journey more people gathered to listen to him. This moment in history is called "Setting in Motion the Wheel of the Dharma." Buddhism was then taught in india and spread to china through trade.
