  • Exposition
  • He will survive, I know it!
  • He is deformed and will die, so we might as well build a coffin
  • Rising Action
  • I can't walk, the doctor said so.
  • You're gonna have to learn how to walk someday!
  • Rising Action
  • (James) What's that out there?
  • Doodle is born, but has a defect and is born abnormal. He is small with red delicate skin. Everyone thinks he will die, except Aunt Nicey.
  • Climax
  • James teaches Doodle how to walk, so then James doesn't have to live with a brother that can't walk.
  • Falling Action
  • But don't you want to get better and not be different?!
  • The family hears a croaking sound and they decide to see what it is. They find a bright red bird that looks like it's in pain
  • Resolution
  • The Ibis dies
  • (Doodle)  Mama, can I bury it?
  • James takes Doodle back to training, but Doodle says he's too tired. Then James get's upset and runs off, while a storm is on the way
  • I'm too tired to train...
  • Once the storm dies down, James goes back to find Doodle. When James finds him, he realizes he couldn't save Doodle from the storm.
  • Doodle!
  • For a long time, it seemed forever, I lay there crying, sheltering my fallen scarlet ibis from the heresy of rain.
