After breakfast, Bud and Lefty Lewis say good bye to the Sleets and go to the car to prepare to depart. Lefty Lewis tellshim he sent a telegram to the “Log Cabin” that Herman E. Calloway apparently owns to let him know Bud is okay.
Miss Thomas introduces Bud to Grand Calloway Station just as she parks the car in front of a big house. Bud grabs his suitcase and asks her about the name of the house. She says that Herman named it after the New York City Grand Central
Bud is not looking forward to a whole hour and a half trapped in a car with the ill-tempered band leader. Sure enough the experience starts off inauspiciously when, before getting in the car, Herman E. Calloway chooses a rock on the ground with his shoe.
