  • After the Archduke Francis Ferdinand, heir to the throne in Austria-Hungary, was driving with his wife through Sarajevo in an open car. They were then both shot at by the terrorist Gavrilo Princip.
  • The Lusitania was a passenger ship that was torpedoed by Germany in the waters surrounding the British Isles. Nearly 1200 passengers drowned, including 128 Americans.
  • By Jove, they got us!! Everyone, to the boats!
  • In response to the Submarine Warfare and the Lusitania sinking, the US doubled the size of its army and made new warships. They still wished to stay out of the war.
  • Even with the Sussex pledge, Germany soon disregarded it and sunk four ships.
  • We are going to sink your ship, get off the boat know.
  • After the Lusitania sunk , the Sussex Pledge said that German would warn ships before they sink them so that everyone could evacuate.
  • Ok. We are getting off.
  • Woodrow Wilson was upset. After the British intercepted a telegram from Germany to Mexico encouraging war on America. It was called the Zimmerman Note.
  • I have had enough. Germany has sunken four more boats and is encouraging Mexico to declare war. Congress, today, on April 2, 1917, let us declare war on Germany!
