The land that was colonized as Jamestown was a swamp and it was full of disease carrying mosquitoes.
The Jamestown colonists had grown tobacco for a source of money, and they called it the "cash crop".
The colonists could elect representatives to help make laws for the colony, and the called it "representative government".
John Smith became the leader of the Jamestown settlement and convinced the colonists to plant crops and work together in order to survive.
