  • The battle of Fort Sumter was the first combat in the American Civil War. The confederate made the first attack by bombarding Fort Sumter after hearing news about President Lincolns plan to resupply the Fort. At the time Major Anderson and his men were holding down the Fort. After about 33 hours of fighting the Union surrendered. The confederate won this battle.
  • Battle of Antietam 17/09/1862
  • This was the first major land battle in the civil war. General McDowell led around 34,000 Union troops to Manassas Junction, Virginia. Where 20,000 confederate soldiers were waiting. During the battle they were pushed back to Henry House hill due to the union crossing bull run river. Confederates detained the Union artillery which broke their line causing them to retreat. The Confederate won this battle
  • Battle of Gettysburg1/07/1863 - 3/07/1863

  • Soon after the Confederate won the chancellorsville battle, while they were still feeling glorious. General Robert E. Lee marched his army into Pennsylvania late in June. At the crossroads town of Gettysburg, these confederate came into contact with the Union’s Army of the Potomac. They fought that day and even heavier the following. Then on July 3rd around 15,000 rebel soldiers were ordered an attack on the Unions centre at Cemetery Ridge where eventually they failed resulting in the Unions victory.
