This is my family, my mom, my dad and my older brother. We all live in a farm filled with crops and animals. We all help out my dad with the farm. Like all the other Irish people we are Christian.
My mom and dad have both passed from the potato famine. I miss them more every day. I don't think that we can survive here alone. We are both starving and we are running out of money for rent. My brother and i have both decided to move to Toronto for a chance at a better life.
To get to Canada my brother and I took the Coffin Ship. During the ride to Toronto many people, including my brother got sea sick. Many more died because of starvation and illness. I was very scared, but i had my brother to comfort me.
Finally we reached Grosse Isle, Canada where we were quarantined for a while. We were eagerly waiting for our guards to let us out and back on the boat so we could make our way to Toronto.
I couldn't believe it! I was finally in Toronto! That meant that my brother and i didn't have to starve anymore. I wish i could share this moment with my parents but i couldn't. I was still happy though.
Ive been in Canada for about two years now and my brother and i both have jobs. I work at a clothing company, and my brother works at a farm. We live in a tiny hut down by the river and we crop and catch our own food. The Canadians here are mostly nice to use, but there are still some who are a bit rude. I have learned over the years to ignore them.
