Storyboard Text

  • What are you eating?
  • Just an orange.
  • She's eating me. I'm the orange and I'm about to go on an amazing journey. To the digestive system!
  • 20 seconds later...
  • When she puts me in her mouth, I start to be chewed up by her teeth (mechanical digestion). Then, the saliva wets me and breaks down the chemicals in me (chemical digestion). When I'm swallowed, I'm called bolus.
  • 10 seconds later...
  • I go through peristalsis when she swallows me and forces me through the pharynx and into the esophagus. That was a bumpy ride. On my way down I can see the liver. It's hard at work making the green-brown digestive juice called bile. Then, I see the gallbladder where that bile is stored.
  • I've been in the stomach for a while now. The gastric juices and stomach walls broke me down...
  • 3 hours later...
  • ...into a thick mix of partially digested food and juices called chyme. On my way out, I see the pancreas. It produces enzymes for the small intestine to break down food.
  • 3 hours later...
  • I get broken down even more in the (not that) small intestine. Now my nutrients are absorbed and go to the liver.
  • The rest of me goes to the large intestine.
  • 20 hours later...
  • As I passed by I saw the appendix and then I passed through most of the large intestine, where all my water and minerals were absorbed. Then, I was pushed in the rectum where I was stored until now. Soon, I'll come out of her anus as waste.
