I met him when we were young, living by spring lake. He was just coming back from a hunting trip. He hadn't caught anything, but he wasn't grouching about it. That's the kind of person he was.
Soon though, something strange happened. He started leaving during the day, coming home in the evening. He smelled strange, and even our daughter was afraid of him.
Then, one night, I heard a sound coming from outside, so I went to investigate. I looked out the front door, and I saw my husband standing in the tall grass, with his head hanging.
Soon, he started changing. His feet got longer, stretching out, the toes stretching out, the foot getting long, fleshy, and white. And no hair on them. The hair began to come away all over his body. He was white all over.
Then he turned his face, and I could see it as it changed. It got flatter and flatter, the mouth flat and wide, and the teeth grinning flat and dull, and the nose just a knob of flesh with nostril holes, and the ears gone, and the eyes gone blue, with white rims around the blue, staring at me.
Then it attacked us. It tried to hit us with a stick, but I bit it in half. Soon enough, the children had woken up, and so had my sister. She jumped out and killed him, and we all ran back into the shadows.
