The Story of Athens
This story talks about Athena and how Athens came to be
Athena is the goddess of wisdom. Here is a myth about Athena that shows how clever and practical she was:
Poseidon loved to claim towns. Since he was the Lord of the Sea, he usually claimed coastal towns.
Instead of villagers choosing between gods, Athena came up with the idea of a contest. Whoever gave the best gift would claim the village.
Athena provided the village with olive trees that be used for cooking and building houses.
Poseidon used his trident to open a mountain for fresh water to flow through but the water turned out to be salty.
In the end the villagers did not have to decide and Poseidon let Athena take over the village, hence the name Athens.
