How a Bill Becomes a Law

Storyboard Text

  • I'm going to tell a congressperson
  • I have an idea for a bill, what do I do?
  • I like your idea! I can sponsor it and write a draft to present.
  • Send your bill to the committee, and they will discuss it and then present it to the house.
  • We just saw the bill in the house, and we voted to let it pass for the senate to vote. We also could have voted against it and the bill would be sent back for revisions.
  • We just saw the bill in the senate, and we voted to let it pass for the president to decide. We also could have voted against it and the bill would be sent back for revisions.
  • I, the president, saw the bill and didn't like it. I choose to veto the bill and not let the bill pass. But if 2/3 of the senate votes to pass the bill, my say will be overturned.
