  • Political Leadership

  • Military Strategy 
  • Abraham Lincoln, born on February 12, 1809 was the 16th president of the United States. He was a republican who opposed the expansion of slavery. 
  • Industrial
  • Two military leaders of the Union were the Ulysses S. Grant and William T. Sherman. These two men lead the Union towards victory over the Confederate.
  • Agriculture
  • The Anaconda Plan was suggested by Winfield Scott, this plan was made to slowly choke and suffocate the south. It created a blockade to prevent the south from trading.
  • Population/Transportation
  • The Union was very industrialized. 90% of the nations factories produce clothes, food, and weaponry. This was better than having to import them
  • Agriculture was not an advantage of the North. The Union did not have good growing whether so they was not able to grow things like crops and cotton to make profit. 
  • The Union had over 22 million people as an advantage. This would be good for raising an army. Railroads were also built allowing transportation to and from places faster.
