John Motley Morehead became promoter of internal improvements
I won governor!
His Efforts to Make Improvements Were Prevented
Of course, there just had to be a democratic majority in the General Assembly. I thought I had great ideas
A School for the Deaf Was Created
Finally a school for the deaf!!
Morehead became a promoter of internal improvement especially to the transportation development in the western side of the state, North Carolina, in the 1830's. This made him a leader in the Whig Party. He won the government in 1840 and once again in 1842.
As a governor he supported internal improvements. Democratic majority stopped his efforts to make improvements such as, aid railroad development, build highways, and improve navigation.
All though his other attempts to make improvements didn't work, he did succeed in the establishment of a school for the deaf which later included the blind too.
