Hannibal was born in Carthage, Tunisia 247 BCE and he died in Gebze, Turkey 183 BCE. Hannibal promised his father to always be an enemy of Rome. Hannibal's father died from sickness and then Hannibal became general. Carthage had conquered three little islands and Rome believed that those islands should be Rome's. They couldn't come to a agreement so they had The First Punic War. It lasted 20 years.
Hannibal took an army over the Alps to go conquer Rome. He started the journey with 60,000 troops, 12,000 cavalry, and 37 elephants. Hannibal ended the journey with 20,000 troops, 4,000 horsemen, and a few elephants. The roman army had 86,000 men. 80% of the Roman army was either captured or killed, including the commander.
Hannibal was best known for leading an army across the Alps to fight Rome. He destroyed most of the roman population through war. Hannibal made the Romans fear Carthage, he was their greatest enemy. Hannibal committed suicide when captured by the Romans. The Roman Army traveled to Carthage after Hannibal died and surrounded the people. They had to surrender.
