My name is Bud, not Buddy. I live in a foster home because I do not know who my dad is and my mom died.
Why do I have to be out here in the shed!?
Bud is at a foster home. He has no one that will take care of him. He has moved back and forth from foster homes 3 times in his life! That is a lot!
Bud has to go to a foster home because his mom passed away when he was only 6! He does not know who his father is. I can't imagine how lonely and sad Bud feels. Losing my mom or dad would be awful. Bud lost his mom and he doesn't have his dad. That would be really depressing.
My mom is Angela Janet Calldwell.
Bud finally got to move in with a family but it turns out, it was pretty bad. Bud was thrown into a shed by the Amoses family. He got stuck with fish hooks in his hand and stung by like 1,000 hornets flying around inside of the shed!
Thank you for taking care of me!
Bud's friend Bugs was getting on a train with Bud but Bud could not get on in time and the train left without Bud!
Bud figures out that Herman E. Calloway is his grandfather, not his dad. They are related to each other, but not how Bud thought they would be. At least Bud found part of his family, even though it was not his dad.
The theme of the book Bud, Not Buddy is the importance of family. Now Bud has his grandfather in his life. He also has people that are not related to him, but care for him like family. This will make a big difference in how his life turns out . Examples of friends who support Bud are when the band and Miss. Thomas care for him, feed him, let him join the band and even buy him an instrument.
