  • CHARLE CHAPLIN IS BORN ON APRIL 16TH, 1889 IN LONDON
  • Both of Charlie's parent were entertainers, actors and vocalists. 
  • Soon after in May of 1901, Charles Chaplin Sr. (Charlie's dad) died. Their mother had a subsequent illness and was in and out of mental hospitals. 
  • only one year old and got a declaration of independence.   
  • Unfortunately, Charlie's Parents wanted each other to dry up by the time he was  
  • Charlie and his older brother Sydney, had to fend for themselves by the age of 10. They spent a lot of time in orphanages and in work houses. 
  • Chaplin was offered his first motion picture contract in 1912 with Mack Sennet and Keystone, (before he went to the US) and he accepted. He became an overnight success and his initial salary of $150 a week soon soared. 
  • At age 10, Charlie and his brother knew that it was time to get a wiggle on. Charlie joined a group called "The Eight Lancashire Lads" and became popular for his great dance moves.  
  • Charlie Chaplin was becoming well known and very rich. He signed with Mutual Film Corporation for a much larger sum, and made 12 reel comedies. 
  • He also made a lot of mazuma when he went into his own business of writing, directing, and producing. He created his own studio in 1917. The plant was in HollyWood on LaBrea Avenue. 
  • By age 12 he joined his first stage show, and he became a comedian in Vaudeville. By 1916, it took him to the US.  
  • He died on December 25, 1977 in his sleep. 
  • Chaplin was falsely accused of being a communist and so he immigrated back to Europe in 1952 after being exiled from the US. He returned in 1972 however, to receive an Academy Award. He was nominated for four Academy Awards in his life. 
  • Robbers stole his coffin, but were caught and the coffin was returned. 
  • Charlie Chaplin went through four wives. The first he married in 1918. Mildred Harris. But they only were a couple until 1920 before Mildred no longer wore her manacle. They had a child, but sadly it only lived for three days. 
  • The second and third wives were Lila Grey and Paulette Goddard. Lila Grey had two of Chaplin's kids but the marriage only lasted from 1924 to 1927. His marriage with Paulette Goddard lasted from 1936 to 1942 but ended on friendly terms. 
  • His final marriage lasted until the end of his life. He married Oona O'Neill in 1943 and had 8 kids. They married when she was 18 and he was 53.
